Storyboard (PowerPoint format)
Title of project: Online Genealogical Tools: Find A Grave
Purpose: To train novice family researchers in online tools for genealogical research such as FindAGrave.com. Another aim is to educate the learner about professional genealogical standards. Rise 360 was completely new to me, so I used it for this project. I’ve used Articulate 360, but not this web-based version.
An “Absorb” project, according to the textbook’s author, William Horton, informs and inspires. Learners read, listen and watch. I created this project with the intention of informing novice family historians about sources as well as inspiring them to continue exploring. I did not include a listen element to the project, but they may read and watch. When I did the storyboard, I envisioned using voiceover, but the Rise template made it easy to use text in a helpful way.
The most challenging part was figuring out some of the navigation of the Rise program itself. On some screens there was no way to return to the main page except through the back button of the browser, an inelegant solution.
I learned that Rise 360 is an amazing program. In the edit mode, you can see what the learning module will look like on tablets and phones by the click of a button. Rise 360 reminds me of the new Gutenberg editor for WordPress.org. A very professional-looking learning module is easy to create quickly with Rise 360.

This explainer video is somewhat crude, but represents my first foray into animated video.

Note: This was an assignment for my graduate research course, but is included here as an example of a video made via the Camtasia add-in for PowerPoint.
