This module is an example of microlearning.
This lesson is entitled Game Mastering 101. The purpose is to help novice game masters (GMs) increase the level of enjoyment in the tabletop roleplaying games she runs. Game Mastering 101 consists of five flashcards with the main topic on the front and the advice on the back. The advice was received via an interview with Scott Carter, a GM of more than fifteen years’ experience and author of several published roleplaying settings and adventures.
The use of tabletop roleplaying games (like Dungeons & Dragons or FATE or Savage Worlds) is no longer restricted to those of us with strong geek cred. Schools use it to teach math and social skills, while a wide range of people use it for fun and relaxation. “Running a game,” as the game mastering process is called, takes effort and is often intimidating. Any advice is a welcome help, which is why this microlearning lesson is important.
In creating this lesson, I learned once more why Articulate Rise is such a useful program, especially for microlearning. I was able to quickly create the lesson without much effort involved. The readings on microlearning were inspirational and fired my imagination about the possibilities of creating mobile learning. I hope to be able to explore those avenues further.
